Kaiser to cut 860 Health IT positions

“The article said some employees could apply with IBM, but no mention of which area of IBM will be assuming the contract and if the division is located in the US.”

If they are cutting jobs in outsourcing and business consulting, do those folks stand a chance at getting hired by IBM?  On the clinical side of things Kaiser is already beginning to tap into temporary physician positions as well and could traveling surgeons be next?  About 25% of the general surgeons are also doing their share of traveling today.

The Kaiser Foundation lost 794 million last year, but was still generous enough to give need Grady Hospital in Atlanta 5 million of it.  Back on track here, again I ask, will those laid off Health IT folks stand a chance with IBM?  This was just too close with both articles less than a week apart.  BD

NEW YORK - IBM will cut about 5,000 jobs in the United States, adding to similarly large cuts in the past few months, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters Wednesday.

The job cuts will account for over 4 percent of IBM's U.S. workforce, which totaled around 115,000 at the end of 2008. The sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the issue, said the cuts will mostly be in IBM's global services business, which includes outsourcing and consulting services.
